Anne of Green Gables Blu-Ray Edition

Sullivan Entertainment offers an amazing line up of old classics. One of the great classics was now available on Blu-ray is Anne of Green Gables Blu-ray: 30th Anniversary Edition. I am excited to tell you about it on OMG Goodies.

My Thoughts about Anne of Green Gables Blu-ray Edition:

Anne of Green Gables is the first book in an 8 book series by L.M. Montgomery. The story takes place in Avonlea, on Prince Edward Island, Canada, during the early 1900’s. It is the story of an orphan girl sent to live with Marilla and Matthew Cuthburt, who are siblings in their fifties and sixties. We get to see Anne grow from a young girl into a young woman, all the while getting into scrapes and funny situations because of her big imagination. It is a funny and heartwarming book.

The Anne of Green Gables Blu-ray is based on the book. It is not exactly the same, but stays pretty true to the book. The book starts when Anne is 11 and finishes when she is 16. The blu-ray starts when she is 13 and goes until she is 16. On screen, we have less time with Anne and do not get to see as many of Anne’s funny situations or hear as many of her imaginative speeches. Also, the Anne of Green Gables Blu-ray focuses a lot on Gilbert and Anne’s relationship and makes it look like they may make up at the end. This was not the case in the book. There were some other things from the book which could have been added to the movie that would have made it even better.

The Anne of Green Gables Blu-ray runs for 220 minutes. When the movie was first made in 1985 it was put on two VHS tapes. The 30th Anniversary Addition is also divided into two parts, included on one disk. The graphics and colors have been enhanced, but you can still tell it was made at an earlier time. The actors on the Anne of Green Gables Blu-ray were perfectly chosen. For the most part, they look like I imagined them. I always imagined Diana and Mrs. Lynde a little plumper, but everyone else looked and acted just like I thought they would. I was not disappointed by the movie, even though I said things were missing or changed. If they had included every-little-thing the movie would have lasted 5 hours instead of 3.

The Anne of Green Gables Blu-ray is the perfect gift for any lover of L.M. Montgomery’s works or anyone who likes books or movies set in the early 1900’s. I really enjoyed watching the film and I think they did a great job of making the book into a movie.

There are special features. They are an original documentary called “L.M. Montgomery’s Spirit of a Place” and a director’s commentary. There is also 5.1 Dolby & French Audio Tracks.
