Book Review: The Beckett Files: To Love a Spy written by Laura Beers

Finding love in Britain while in the midst of war with France may not have been easy, but the Beckett family, which consists of the best British spies, might just be up to the task.

OMGGoodies may not be a family of spies, but we definitely have our eyes on the Beckett Files series by Laura Beers.

The best authors have read—a lot. Maybe that’s how a person like Laura Beers, trained in construction management by Brigham Young University, and a mother of three became the author she is today. After all, reading is her favorite pastime—next to writing, that is. The Beckett Files, a 5-star series sold on Amazon, now contains three amazing spy romances. To Love a Spy, released April 2, 2018, won’t be the last, either.  This is a clean historical romance series OMGGoodies’ readers don’t want to miss!

The Beckett Files:

Currently, the Beckett Files contains three spy romance stories that almost stand alone. But why read one, when you can read three?

Saving Shadow:

In a time when men expect women stay home and work on their needlepoint, Lady Elizabeth Beckett takes to the shadows. Using her perfect memory and other impressive espionage skills, she works to destroy those kidnapping young women from high society. The only problem: she isn’t immediately enamored with her new partner who thinks she should be at home playing the pianoforte.

A Peculiar Courtship:

Now that Lady Elizabeth has retired, her brother Lord Jonathon must finish his mission of saving Lady Hannah. Once he finds her, keeping her safe isn’t so easy. As Lady Hannah becomes fast friends with Lady Elizabeth, Lord Jonathon wades through his feelings. Love isn’t the only excitement though. Together, the Beckett family must catch a traitor and bring down French spies.

To Love a Spy:

One would assume that a retired spy would stay retired. But in the Beckett family, retirement isn’t well-defined. The French have infiltrated Parliment, requiring some of the family to come back to work for the Crown. As Benedict and the Earl of Camden, Adrien, run an investigation, they also struggle to keep Eliza and her sister, Kate, safe. Keeping a spy safe, however, isn’t always easy, especially when she’s worried about her loved ones.

My Thoughts:

Laura Beers recreates the early 17th century where lords and ladies gathered during the Season. She adds a family of spies and love interests and gives us the Beckett Files. Her craftily created description of people and places drops readers directly into the past.

Each one of these books grabbed my attention. I immediately fell in love with Eliza, code name: Shadow, and my heart quickly followed suit with the rest of the family. Though romance stories, the books include great action with just the right amount of suspense. The captivating storyline of To Love a Spy, my favorite of the three, caused my heart to race for more than one reason.

Available in both ebook and print, Saving Shadow, A Peculiar Courtship, and To Love a Spy captivate readers and become favorites overnight.
