The first step in making cookies, or any other type of baked good, is to turn on the oven. For this recipe we want the oven to be set at 400*F (200*C). After you have preheated the oven, place a piece of parchment, or wax, paper on a cookie sheet before setting aside. This recipe yields about 4 dozen cookies, depending on the number of cookie sheets you own, prepare those as well.

What you will need:

Gathering the ingredients are an important step. The ingredients you will be needing are; salted butter, sour cream, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and baking soda.

Lofthouse Style Sugar Cookies RecipeIn a tabletop mixer with the paddle attachment, or if you prefer to use a hand mixer a large bowl, cream together your butter and sour cream until smooth and a light color.

Next:

In a separate mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients in three separate times, remember to mix well after every addition. (For the sake of this post, and not to add too many pictures, the picture below is me adding the dry mixture on the third go around.)

Lofthouse Style Sugar Cookies RecipeNow, there are two ways to for your cookies from here. You can either have drop cookies or cutouts, depending on your preferred preference. In order to form the drop cookies, use your fingers or a small spoon, and roll dough into 2 inch (5 cm) balls and place them 2 inches (5 cm) apart. Using the palm of your hand, or the bottom of a cup, press the cookie balls flat.

FYI:

If you are interested in making cut out sugar cookies here is what you need to do; cover your cookie dough and chill for 30 minutes. Roll the dough on a flat, lightly floured surface until about ¼ of an inch (about 1 cm) thick. Using a cup, biscuit cutter, or your preferred cookie cutter, cut the cookies and place 2 inches (5 cm) apart on prepared cookie sheet(s).

Lofthouse Style Sugar Cookies RecipeBake the cookies in a 400*F (200*C) preheated oven for 7 to 9 minutes or until the bottoms of the cookies are a golden brown. Immediately remove the cookie sheet and let cool completely before frosting.

Frosting:

The frosting we have used is a basic buttercream recipe. The ingredients you will need are; unsalted butter, vanilla extract (you can always switch up the flavoring of the buttercream depending on the type of goodie you decide to pair with it), powdered sugar and milk. Food coloring and sprinkles are always optional.

In a tabletop mixer or a large bowl, cream together the butter and the vanilla until smooth. Add in the powdered sugar one cup at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Add in milk and food coloring, and beat until fluffy and smooth. Spread onto cooled cookies and add the sprinkles immediately.

Our Suggestion to eat these cookies:

In order to thoroughly enjoy these delicious cookies, I suggest to pair them with a tall glass of milk, however, that’s only a personal preference. These cookies are dad approved and the recipe makes around 4 dozen cookies, depending on how large the cookies are. Enjoy!
