Mouthguard Challenge

Identity Games has introduced an updated version of the Mouthguard Challenge. The words, phrases, and even tasks will have friends and family laughing for hours. Knowing this is the perfect gift for game-loving teens and families, OMG Goodies has included Mouthguard Challenge in our 2017 Holiday Gift Guide!

My Thoughts on The Mouthguard Challenge:

The first time I saw the YouTube of Howie Mandel playing Mouthguard Challenge I thought I might die of asphyxiation from laughing so hard. Like so many other times, I forgot how fun it sounded until someone else reminded me. This time, my reminder came in the form of a review offer and press release for the updated version that now includes 1,100 tasks and flexible mouthguards that won’t break! Of course, receiving the press release meant I absolutely had to accept the offer to review the game—I’m glad I did!

My daughter and I sat down together to play this entertaining game. She looks so cute in her mouthguard!

Mouthguard Challenge

She has an easier time putting the hard, yet just-flexible-enough piece of plastic into her mouth than I do—watching me is worth a laugh all on its own! With her mouthguard in place, she drew her card and mumbled her first word. We giggled a bit, then patted her on the back, we chose to not play for points. I understood her word on the first try. I mumbled my word and she understood that right away as well. We obviously have excellent diction, though we are still wondering what an “askhole” is.

How to Play Mouthguard Challenge:

2-6 players can play.

Each card has five challenges, decide which one you will play as a group. The youngest player draws from the pile first and performs the task labeled on the card. This may be various Say-IT tasks, or a Do-IT or Sing-IT task. The person who performs the task and the person who answers correctly each get a point.

The hard ones are there.

We reached the words with P’s, M’s, and B’s in them and choked up with laughter. You cannot say “Papa” with a mouthguard in, let alone, “Have a piece of humble pie”, which comes out sounding more like, “ha a ees o hu o eye”. Pretty soon, our entire family was laughing even though only two of us were playing the game. You simply cannot turn your head away!

“Poop Emoji” was a favorite of ours. Not only did my daughter struggle to describe it, she couldn’t say it either! I could hear the double vowel “oo” but that was it! This time we did more than laugh, we cried. My husband and sons laughed as they tried to determine what was going on. She attempted several times but in the end, we gave up and she had to tell me the word without the mouthguard.

Mouthguard Challenge has several categories:

Say IT includes:  multiple categories, movie lines, famous landmarks, from/to, backwards, what comes next, and human body.

The other categories are:  Describe IT, Spell IT, Do IT, Sing IT, Answer the Question, Celebrity/Character Charades, and Do IT Extreme Challenges.

The game runs for 15 minutes at which time you need to give your mouths a break. However, the fun and giggles last all night—there’s no way around that!

Perhaps your favorite part of the new mouthguards will be the same as mine—they are dishwasher safe! Now that the game is over, no one has to stand at the sink with soap and water, simply place them in the top rack of the dishwasher and let it do all the dirty work for you!
