Nickerbacher: A Short Story Chapter Book
Terry John Barto has taken his picture book tale, NicherBacker the Funniest Dragon, and expanded it into a 53-page chapter book you and your children are sure to love. Kim Sponaugle has illustrated wonderful black and white pictures which increase the delight of the Nickerbacher tale. My family, both at home and at OMG Goodies, loves dragons, and we would be remiss if we didn’t share more with you about Nickerbacher!

Nickerbacher: A Short Story Chapter Book:

One of the wondrous attributes of storytelling is the ability to expand each story into something more magnificent. JK Rowling could have stopped with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, but instead, she continued with 6 additional books. Each of those books grew, not only in size but in descriptiveness, story threads, and reading level. By doing this JK Rowling ensured, Harry Potter became a sort of modern-day classic.

Barto takes his story of Nickerbacher the Funniest Dragon and expands it in a way that those children who loved to sit with Mom and Dad and listen to them read the story of the joke-telling Dragon can now read a more detailed account of their favorite story. The Nickerbacher chapter book has the same punny jokes as before and includes new jokes too! As readers, we learn more about Prince Happenstance and La La Land. We meet the host of The Knight Show, Johnny Kingston, and Nickerbacher sees his comedic idols’ pictures on the wall! Parents and children will definitely want to watch for all the fun ways Barto has taken our world and twisted it into this incredibly fun chapter book! (Recommended for ages 7 – 10)

Synopsis:

With a little cajoling from Princess Gwendolyn, both Nickerbacher and Prince Happenstance agree to travel to La La Land. Nickerbacher finds his third-class citizenship disappears as the citizens of La La Land learn not all Dragons are dangerous! His father also learns that protecting princesses may not be for all dragons. In the end, will Nickerbacher learn to tell jokes that are more than punny? Discover whether or not Nickerbacher can find the end of that rainbow together when you read Nickerbacher!
