Parenting: 14 Gopsel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family by Paul David Tripp

Best selling author and president of Paul Tripp Minitries, Paul David Tripp, has written his newest book, Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family. I will tell you all about it here on OMG Goodies.

My Thoughts about Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family:

When I first got this book and read the description on the inside flap I was very excited to see what I could learn about parenting.  As a Christian, I see a lot of bad in the world that can negatily affect my ability to parent and raise my child well. I was excided to see a parening help book that focused on the gospel of CHrist.  I am striving to raise my son in a Christ centered home and I thought that I found the book that would help me do that.

As I started reading Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family, it started out good. Author, Paul Tripp, discusses how we can’t change our children if we do not first change ourselves.  He talks about how we are here to help our children through this life and how our children are only on loan to use. They aren’t ours, but our Heavenly Father’s. Which is true. As parents we created our children’s physical bodies but Heavenly Father created thier souls. We have to remember that we can’t base our success on our childrens accivements and activities and how they “turn out”. We must bse our paretning success on how well focus on the 14 Gospel principles that Paul discusses.

The 14 gospel principles that can change our family and are pareting are:

  1. Calling
  2. Grace
  3. Law
  4. Inability
  5. Identiy
  6. Process
  7. Lost
  8. Authority
  9. Foolishness
  10. Caracter
  11. False Gods
  12. Control
  13. Rest
  14. Mercy

Each priciple is a chapter. In each chapeter Pual discusses how to apply each of these principles to our parenting. He uses scriptures in the bible to support his ideas and he also used exaples of how to apply the principle in your life.  While he makes some very good point in each chapter, I did not agree with all of them. If you were raised the type of Christian he is then you may understand and appriciate his thought process more. Many of his ideas and thought processes, however, were in direct contraditction with what I was taught in my Christian religin. So I had a hard time with some of his parenting advice and interpretations of the gospel.

That being said, Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family had many insights that I can appriciate and apply in my life. Even though I did not agree with his interpretaion of the 14 gospel principles and how they apply to parenitng, I can take the scriptures he used and the basic principles and apply them in my life as a parent.
