When You Find A True Friendship Online

In today’s world sometimes finding a true friendship is hard. Occasionally, you meet someone online and everything clicks and a true friendship is formed.

Friendship

Friendships Online

I am honestly a quiet, solitary person. Usually, I find comfort in my close-knit circle of friends. If I say you are my friend, then you truly have earned my friendship. If I call you a sister, then you have left a mark on me and I value you to an even higher standard.

I have a few people in my life who have become part of my circle — A circle that I hold sacred. The same circle where once you are in, it takes a lot to get kicked out, because I invest in my friendships. Friendships need love, nurture, and time. This same circle is where I put all my eggs into the basket. I do not hold back my feelings or emotions. You get to see the super raw, super scared, happy, sad, angry and emotional me. Basically, all of me.

Honestly, most of the people in my circle are life long friends — people I have known since I was in high school or younger. Now, I am no longer a social butterfly wanting to have a zillion girlfriends. In all actuality, I am fine nowadays with a text, or Facebook message or silly little tag in something that usually sparks my interest.

Virtual Friendships

Special thanks to online games where you actually have to interact with others online. This is where many of my online friendships started. Most of these people have never met me and may or may not have had a telephone call with me. While I have met a few in real life,  I am always sure to use safe circumstances when meeting a virtual friend face-to-face, and you need to as well. These are people I know are there for me if I ever need to vent, yell, scream or cry, as I am for them — no questions asked. They can help guide me, build me up, and be brutally honest with me.

After playing an interactive game for a while, it is easy to tell if someone is having a good day or a bad one. You start talking about life and what is happening. Easily, you learn their ticks, their moods, and their behaviors, just as you would if you knew them in person.

Special bonds

Occasionally, and I mean occasionally, you meet someone super special. That one person who just gets you, who is there for you no matter what. I found this person in the blogging world. She has been so kind, patient, and understanding. She honestly feels like a sister. I feel I can talk to her about anything and everything, and I am pretty sure we have spoken on that level. We can talk blog stuff, family stuff, and just life in general and have fun. Sometimes we can go a few days or even weeks without messaging and we pick up right where we left off.

She has helped me through some of my hardest times mentally and has picked me up. This woman, my sister, has rooted for me and believed in me when I did not believe in myself. When I took college classes, she understood I could not blog like I was before, and she held my spot. She has shared in my joys and my failures. Yet, when a failure happens she is right there to help me learn why I had a failure and to show me how to succeed in the future. Without this woman, I can pretty much guarantee I would not be in the blogging world. Now I am constantly researching new things, ideas and strategies to benefit us both. I want to say a special thank you to you . . . you know who you are.

Online Friendship Safety

Lastly, If you are going to open yourself up to online friendships, make sure you are safe. First, do not give out vital information. Second, if you ever plan a face-to-face meeting, do it in a public place and have someone with you. Also, realize that some people online are not who they are in real life. This is where you have to trust your gut and intuition. In addition, do your research on them. It is easy to do online searches on people today. For less than 2 dollars you can do a basic background search on them. In all reality, a background check is not a bad idea.

Finally, do you have any friendships that started out online? Have you met them in real life? Tell me your stories.
